Small satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) design: A trade space exploration model

As small satellites are finding increased applicability in a number of space missions, the community is actively exploring feasibility missions employing active instruments on spacecraft. In particular, synthetic aperture radars interest as they prove to be versatile tools for Earth Observation purposes. This paper proposes trade exploration model identify designs space-borne satellite that address desired instrument requirements. Two analysis approaches proposed, based multivariate with two evaluation metrics and using parallel coordinate plots. The demonstrates utility by considering case studies. first study looks at radar broad range platforms. narrows down 1265 feasible less than 44 Pareto optimal different center frequencies (C- X-band), elicits conditions L-band SARs feasibility, discusses bounds technical constraints associated spacecraft second considers 3U CubeSat identifies within 12,928 sheds light operational required development such innovative miniaturized radars.
